Leonard Schaffner, 82, of Henrietta, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Henrietta with Rev. Randy Osborn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.

Mr. Schaffner was born on January 9, 1932 in the Riverland Community of Clay County, to Gotfred and Pauline (Bitz) Schaffner. He attended Henrietta High School and served his country in the US Army. Mr. Schaffner married Lavenia Neugebauer on November 19, 1955 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henrietta where he served on various committees and as a Deacon for forty-five years. In addition, Mr. Schaffner served as Clay County Chairman and State Director for the Texas Farm Bureau.  He also served on the boards of the Federal Land Bank, Farmers Home Administration, and the Farm Service Agency (formerly ASCS).  Mr. Schaffner was a highly regarded farmer and rancher. The family received the Clay County Outstanding Agriculture Family Award.  Mr. Schaffner also received the Pioneer Award from the Texas Farm Bureau.

Mr. Schaffner was preceded in death by; his parents, Gotfred and Pauline (Bitz) Schaffner; one son, Glenn Dale Schaffner; three brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include his wife Lavenia Schaffner of Henrietta, Texas; one son, Alan Schaffner and wife Leslie of Wichita Falls, Texas; one daughter, Joy Schaffner of Henrietta, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Laurie Schaffner of Henrietta, Texas; four grandchildren, Bryan Schaffner and wife Anna, Sharon Dacus and husband Grady, Cole Schaffner and Luke Schaffner; one great-grandson, Ian; expecting two great granddaughters; two brothers, Dr. Leroy Schaffner and wife Joan of Henrietta, Texas, Dan Schaffner and wife Kay of Burkburnett, Texas; two sisters, Mary Lou Teague and husband Eddie of Henrietta, Texas and Ella Mae Smith of Wichita Falls, Texas.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:30PM-8:00PM.
